Bio, Etc.
Janice Pluma, a native Californian, was born in Los Angeles and raised in Sacramento. Her interest in art began in childhood, and has never diminished. She spent much of her adult life moving to different locales, and studied fine art at colleges in California, Colorado and North Dakota.
Eventually, she found herself in Santa Maria, CA wanting to finally obtain a diploma. At the time, there was no university in the area offering a fine art degree, so she entered Cal Poly's graphic design program in San Luis Obispo. Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Art and Design, she worked for various San Luis Obispo county newspapers and magazines...and continued to paint.
Settling in Paso Robles, Janice formed a freelance business, Warpaint Graphics, specializing in print media: magazines, logos, business collateral and wine labels. While successful as a graphic designer, she always desired to return to an active fine art career. In 2013, she had the opportunity to establish a collaborative studio, Atelier 708, with two other Paso Robles artists and left the graphics business to paint full time. Due to major life changes for each of the artists, the Atelier closed in June, 2024 after 11 successful years. Janice then moved from Paso Robles, to Folsom, CA and currently works from her home studio. She shows her work in galleries and various solo and group exhibitions. Janice is a member and past president of Paso Robles Art Association and a member of Rancho Cordova Arts.
